What is Mesothelioma?

Mesothelioma is a form of cancer which is caused through exposure to asbestos.

The cancer grows and develops from the protective lining that covers most of a persons internal organs (the mesothelium). It most commonly starts from the lining of the lungs (the pleura) and the chest wall, but can also start from the abdominal lining or the lining around the heart.

As I write this, there is no cure.

Nearly Easter...

Nearly Easter (well tomorrow in fact is Easter Sunday) and this blog has now had over 100 visitors! (103 to be exact) and that seems like an important milestone!

Thank you to everyone who has visited this page, to those who have helped spread the word too. Everything helps.

Unfortunately no news to report from The One Show or This Morning, either they just haven't reached my brilliantly written email yet, or they are just plain not interested...

Keep spreading the word...

Update..

So far we have tried raising awareness through this blog, emails, facebook, twitter and forums. My older sister has contacted local newspapers and Meridian, she is waiting to hear back from The Sun.

I have also sent an email to the official Philip Scofield website, but not heard back and this morning I have contacted "This Morning" who sounded interested and asked me to put everything into an email which I am in the middle of doing.

Although I know that good will come from this it is so hard.. I miss my Dad so much and I know that I am not alone. Everyone who met him loved him, he was that kind of person..

Good and not so good

WOW, this blog has only been up for a couple of days and already 51 views. This is great news, especially as I haven't really promoted it as much as I could have (and will be working on from tomorrow...).

Still no news from anyone who knew my Dad, but hey, it's early days....

Touched

Wow, I have posted the message to my FB, twitter and to a couple of forums I frequent and I am seriously touched at how many people have reposted the message to help spread the word.

Thank you to one and all of you.

Why this blog?

My Dad passed away after battling Mesothelioma - a horrible form of cancer known to be caused by exposure to Asbestos.

His name is Anthony Evan Dossitt, known to most as "Tony" and he worked on building sites for all of his working life. He was a wonderful Dad, a great husband to my Mum and a Granddad who will always be remembered for doing things to amuse and entertain the children! It isn't often you see a grown man of over 40 dancing around in a garden in the rain holding up a Barbie child's umbrella whilst singing "I'm singing in the rain." He spent years giving up his time for the Scout movement and on a Saturday morning to run children's football clubs for preschool age children, he had a love for walking and for taking photos of the building sites he worked on.

However he had a horrible illness which he battled incredibly bravely, right up until the end.

Specifically I want to find people who worked with my Dad between 1982 and 1985 at the Portsmouth Naval Dockyard (where the Mary Rose is housed amongst others) and the Naval Hospital at Haslar in Gosport. Did you work with him? Did you know someone who did? It was an important time in his life and I want to know more about it...

If you can help at all, either with these specific dates or because you knew him at all then please either leave me a comment with an email address or email me at (suzi. shaw @gmail .com   just remove the spaces) and I promise we will be in touch...

I shall keep this up to date with news, pictures and information from my search.
